So you have been with your other half a while, and they pop the question… obviously it’s a happy ending! But do you dive straight into having the wedding or drag it out so you can plan everything to the letter?
Short Engagement
Advantages
Having a short engagement is seen to some people that the couple are rushing to get married and want to get it done as soon and as quickly as possible. The couple will see it is as a way of saving money for better things (like the honeymoon).
Disadvantages
But the other side of a short engagement is that if it is within a couple of months after being engaged and the wedding is organised at short notice, you have no idea if everyone you want there will be able to attend due to work commitments, holidays etc. Also, organising a wedding at short notice may be the pricier option so, unless you have the cash to splash, it might not be the best route
Long Engagement
Advantages
What would you define as a long engagement? Three years? Maybe five? You have your little box of wedding ideas you have had since you were little. It’s now time to follow all your ideas to the letter. At least if you are one of these people who have planned your wedding all your life, at least you have something to follow to keep things organised!
Having a long engagement means you and your fiancé can have time to save as much as possible to make the day extra special. Of course you hope and pray that you get some help from your families too. You can both set a date into the future and then you have a timescale to get it all organised for.
Disadvantages
While a long engagement enables you to make it the best day of your lives, depending on how long you are planning to save for and when you set the ‘official’ date for the wedding. However, it is a very long time to wait for that special day and every girl cannot wait for the day they get married. So good luck, but you may have to put up with a bridezilla for a while…
