Call 999 in the case of a life-threatening emergency; this can include
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Unconsciousness
- Serious bleeding
There are many other services available should it not be a genuine emergency.
If you need to call 999, try to stay calm and answer the call operator’s questions as best as possible. This will help them establish what’s wrong and decide whether an ambulance is needed. The call operator will let you know when they have all the information they need.
They can give you first aid instructions in an emergency while help travels to the scene.
If you think you might need to call 999 for an ambulance but you’re not sure, dial 111. If you need an ambulance, they will immediately arrange for one to be sent to you – you won’t need to call 999.
