How much does a uPVC front door cost? – What affects the cost of a front door?
These 2 questions are probably the first ones that anybody looking for a new or replacement UPVC front door will ask. It’s important to at least get a good guide price for the work in advance, so that you know if the price you are being quoted for is reasonable and not a “rip-off”.

Given that a typical front door gets opened and closed 1,000’s of times per year (365 days x 3 times per day) and that around 34% of burglars come in through one, it needs to be hard wearing and secure.
How much is the front door going to cost and what will make the price higher (or lower)?
Simply put, UPVC front door prices will be related to the size, design and quality of the product.
There is more detail on prices for Upvc Front doors later in the article. But to start with, the costs of a supply only, non-glazed, solid UPVC door can start from around £320 to £375 including VAT.
At this price, the door should have the basic specifications as follows:
- Includes frame
- Multi-point locks
- 3 keys
- Internal beading
- Door furniture (letter box / door handle)
- 85mm or 150mm threshold
- Steel reinforced frame
- 10-year guarantee
The larger the door you need, and the more options you add, the higher the cost is likely to be.

Side panels are recommended to be double glazed with toughened glass, both as a security measure and from an energy efficiency standpoint.

Energy ratings affects prices for front doors
These days, manufacturers supply an energy rating for their doors. The rating is from the BFRC (British Fenestration Rating Council).
Its’ format is to use an alphabetical and colour coded system to denote the energy efficiency of the door. Ratings run from A to G, although doors with a rating of F or G won’t meet current building regulation standards.

Cottage doors & Stable doors
Two specialised “doors of character” are often used to give a home a more individual look. Cottage & stable doors can be used at the front or back of the house, but a lot of buyers like to just use them at the back of the home – especially the stable door design.
